Dorset County Hospital set for annual Open Day

Dorset County Hospital is gearing up for its annual Open Day next month, allowing visitors the opportunity to catch a glimpse of what goes on inside its walls.

Proving popular in previous years, this year’s Open Day will include tours of different departments including theatres and diagnostic imaging.

There will also be a number of displays in the Education Centre for visitors to browse including the hospital’s charity, recruitment and volunteering, organ donation, hospital membership, breast awareness and Digital Care Record.

LiveWell Dorset will also be in the Education Centre offering some fun and quick ‘body MOT’ tests.

Visitors will be able to find out how healthy their lungs are with LiveWell Dorset’s lung function test, check their weight matches healthy guidelines and have their blood pressure checked.

They will also be able to register with LiveWell Dorset for free healthy-living advice and coaching.

The Teddy Bear Clinic will also be making a welcomed return where young visitors can bring along their favourite cuddly toy or doll to have a heart check-up or to treat their wounds with a bandage.

Chief Executive of Dorset County Hospital, Patricia Miller said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for members of the public to come and explore behind the scenes of their local hospital. Visitors will be able to see how this hospital operates and all the wonderful work that our staff do on a daily basis.

“Staff have worked very hard to organise this afternoon and I hope that people will make the most of this opportunity and come along and show their support.”

The Open Day will be held on Saturday 13 October from 2pm until 4.30pm.

On arrival people are asked to go to the Education Centre, located in the East Wing, where they will also be able to get tickets for the department tours.
