Merchant Navy Day recognised at County Hall

Merchant Navy Day - Red Ensign

The Red Ensign

As we reported a few days ago, Dorset Council today recognised the significant contribution the Merchant Navy makes towards the safety and economy of the UK by raising the Red Ensign over County Hall on the 3rd September, Merchant Navy Day. This was in response to a request to do so by Admiral Lord West of Spithead, GCB, DSC, PC. Andy Worth reports from the event and, following the raising of the flag on the main County Hall flagpole, we hear speeches by Angus Campbell – Lord-Lieutenant of Dorset, Cllr Pauline Batstone – Chair of Dorset Council, Captain Peter Tambling – former Weymouth harbourmaster and prayers offered by Revd Peter Clark from the Dorchester's United Church.
