MP protects 15,000 jobs

West Dorset MP Chris Loder has called on Government ministers in the House of Commons to ensure West Dorset gets its fair share of funding and investment in the future. The MP and his small team have assisted thousands of local businesses and constituents access the grants, income support and loans they have needed, often navigating complex situations requiring intervention with Councils, Ministers and Government departments.

Latest figures show that 10,500 jobs in West Dorset have been furloughed through the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme, while a further 4,400 self-employed in the constituency have received payments totalling £12.5 million. The value of grants and relief awarded to West Dorset businesses amounts to some £56 million.

Chris Loder has told KeeP 106: “I am grateful for the number of jobs and businesses so far protected in West Dorset but there is much more to do, with local economies facing a very tough time ahead. I welcome the second phase of the Government’s response, with a £30billion ‘Plan for Jobs’; creating new jobs through investing in infrastructure, training and apprenticeships and protecting jobs by revitalising the hard-hit sectors upon which many jobs depend. In particular, the schemes for 16-24 year-olds are vital to our future economy.”
