As we have recently reported, STAND (Save The Area North of Dorchester) campaigners who oppose the DOR 13 section of Dorset Council’s Draft Local Plan, are organising a protest march through the county town on 2nd April. The march will take the form of a traditional skimmity ride, as featured in Thomas Hardy’s ‘Mayor of Casterbridge’, to highlight the town’s cultural heritage. Linda Poulsen, an expert on local traditions, joined us to explain what a skimmity ride is and update us on the current situation regarding objections to the plan.
If you would like to join the protest march on Saturday 2nd March please meet in Maumbury Rings at 10 am for an 11 am start.
