Woman sustains cuts to face during assault in Weymouth

Police officers are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward as they investigate an assault on a woman in Weymouth.

It was reported that at around 7.40pm on Sunday 18 February 2024 the victim, aged in her 20s, was approached by a man who was known to her as she was walking along Newstead Road, near to the junction with Abbotsbury Road. She was reportedly assaulted by the man, who then made off down an alleyway that leads to Holland Road.

The woman sustained cuts to her face and hand and was treated by the ambulance service at the scene. She did not require hospital treatment.

Police Constable Robert Coram, of Weymouth police, said: “We are carrying out a detailed investigation into this assault and I am keen to speak to any witnesses or anyone with information that might assist our enquiries.

“I am particularly keen to speak to a young female witness who was walking nearby during the incident.

“Finally, I would also urge any residents in the vicinity with home CCTV or doorbell cameras, as well as motorists who were driving in the area and have dashcam fitted, to please check their footage and see if they have captured anything of relevance.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Dorset Police at www.dorset.police.uk or by calling 101, quoting occurrence number 55240025363. Alternatively, independent charity Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously online at Crimestoppers-uk.org or by calling Freephone 0800 555 111.
