Weekend Sports Report

Keep Radio 106.3 FM Local Sports Bulletin 5 40 pm on Robbie Mott’s Drive Time afternoon show, Monday & Friday:

Weymouth overturned the form book to win in Essex beating Aveley by 2 goals to nil at Parkside the Terras scores coming from Malachi Linton with a double.

Our Man at the Match said,” Great result for Weymouth the lads didn’t give Aveley time to settle. A big 3 points for the Terras couldn’t name a Man of the Match as they all deserve the award for their performance this afternoon”.

Dorchester took an early lead courtesy of Shaq Gwengwe at the Avenue Stadium against visitors Beaconsfield Town to lead 1 goal to nil at the break.

The Rams equalized mid-way into the second half then in the 77th minute Will Spetch snatched victory for the Magpies heading the winner into the back of the visitors net.

Portland United travelled to HMS Temeraire to play United Services Portsmouth and returned to Grove Corner with 2 goals to 1 win in the bank.

The Blues scores coming from Jamie Cleaver and Jack Delves.

Bridport made it a Grand Slam of victories for our local clubs beating Cullompton Rangers 3 -1 at St. Mary’s, Kieran Daniels, Fred Parsons and Luke King all netting for the Bees.

In the local rugby Tribute Southern Counties League Swanage & Wareham played Avonvale away and returned to Dorset after running out 26 points to 17 winners.

In a local friendly on Friday evening at Monmouth Avenue Weymouth & Portland’s social xv played Swanage & Wareham 3rd xv with the Seahorses second team winning by 55 points to 32.

The Dorset & Wilts Under 20 County team locked horns with their Oxfordshire counterparts in the Jason Leonard RFU Under 20 County Championship at Dorchester rugby club on Sunday afternoon and except for a couple of defensive lapses in the first half they totally overwhelmed their guests who just could not compete with the intensity of the Combined Counties game.

The Twin Counties youngsters conceded a try in their first attack of the game when an Oxford back intercepted a stray pass in centre field and ran half the length of the park to touch down for a try beneath the Counties posts and then land the conversion, but for the next 37 minutes it was all one-way traffic with just about every Dorset & Wilts attack resulting points on the scoreboard.

However, Oxfordshire struck again with the last move of the first half when their number 8 forward picked up the ball from the base of the scrum and barged his way over the line to score a try in the corner that made the score 31 points to 12 at the break in Dorset& Wilts favour.

After the break the Twin Counties took almost total control of the proceedings conceding nothing and running in trys almost at will to make the final score Dorset & Wilts 79 points to Oxfordshire’s 12.

Maurice Goodchild (Bournemouth RFC} crossed the whitewash 3 times for Dorset & Wilts as did Euan Baird (Swanage & Wareham RFC) Dylan Walters (Dorchester RFC) and Rhys Gosling (Wimborne RFC) both touched down twice with Josh Kerrigan (Salisbury RFC) and Louis Allum (Bournemouth RFC) both scoring a try each.

Also on Sunday Weymouth Football Club’s women’s team played Royal Wootton Bassett Women at the Bob Lucas Stadium and lost by one goal to nil.
