Weekend Sports Report

Mark Molesley’s opening game in his second tenure at Weymouth Football Club ended in defeat at Priory Lane against relegation threatened Eastbourne Borough.

The Sports’ Matt Green was the only player to activate the scoreboard in the 10th minute of the game and from then until the final whistle neither sides goalkeeper had ignominy of picking the ball out of the back of the net, so the game ended up Eastbourne Borough 1 Weymouth nil.

Our Man at the Match said: ” The Terras did enough to have earned a draw, but it never happened. Weymouth had a much livelier second half, but failed to put the ball into the back of the Borough net and again it was the Terras goal keeper, Harvey Wiles-Richards who kept the Terras in the game with a string of spectacular saves”.

Dorchester extended their unbeaten tally to 9 on the bounce with an away victory against Hayes & Yeading.

The Magpies striker Luke Pardoe netted in the 16th minute to put the Magpies into a 1 nil lead slotting home following a Shaq Gwengwe drive that was kept out by the home goalkeeper with Pardoe stroking in the loose ball, then for the remainder of the game although both teams went close there was no further scoring to make the result Hayes & Yeading nil Dorchester 1.

Portland United took the road into Hampshire to play Petersfield who took a 24th minute lead. Greg Borthwick levelled the scores a minute later then mid-way into the second half Shaun Bessent put the Blues into 2 goals to 1 a lead that they held onto until the final whistle.

The Bridport fans rallied to the call and pitched up at 9 30am on Saturday morning forks in hand in order to ensure the game at St Mary’s against Sidmouth went ahead.

This season the Bees have lost a total of 18 home matches, 6 First team, 5 Reserves, 5 Women’s and 2 Veterans due to a waterlogged playing surface and the fans’ hard work paid off with game kicking off at the scheduled time 3 00pm. It remained goalless until the 63rd. minute, unfortunately for Bridport it was the Devonians who scored the only goal of the game.

It was the final weekend of the Tribute League Rugby season and Weymouth & Portland hosted the Southern Counties League South bottom club Avonvale and put their guests to the sword winning the game by 66 points to 7.
