Serious injuries sustained as car crashes into The Nook bar

Emergency services received a report at approximately 12:20 today (Friday 28th June) after a car had mounted the pavement and crashed into the open air seating area outside The Nook bar on Weymouth seafront.

Two ambulances attended and the Air Ambulance also landed on the beach. Dorset & Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service have secured the canopy over the seating area which had been damaged in the crash.

Two people have received serious injuries in the crash and taken to hospital.

Dorset Police closed the Esplanade from the King’s Statue to the Pavilion to allow the emergency services to carry out their work. Part of the road re-opened a little before 3:00 pm.

Eye witnesses reported hearing a big crash and screaming when the car hit the tables and then the railing.

The RNLI made an announcement on the beach public address system saying “We advise you do not enter the water as due to an ongoing incident lifeguards are not currently watching the water.”
