Witness appeal following robbery and assault in Weymouth

Detectives are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward as they investigate a robbery and an assault in Weymouth.

At around 2.10am on Sunday 28 July 2024 the victims – a man and a woman – were walking through the subway from Westham Bridge under Westwey Road when a man made verbal threats and took cash from the female victim’s handbag.

It is reported that a second man pushed the female victim and another woman in possession of a spanner hit her across the chest and arm.

It is further reported that the victims then continued walking through the subway towards the steps for Abbotsbury Road, when the woman pushed both victims to the floor and made verbal threats.

The female victim sustained a minor injury to her arm.

One of the male offenders is described as being of slim build and aged in his 60s with long, scruffy dark-coloured hair and a dark beard. He was wearing dirty hooded top and baggy trousers and he was in possession of a green sleeping bag and a blue and black chequered blanket.

The female offender is described as being of slim build with curly, brown hair and she was wearing a khaki-green jacket, navy-blue sweatshirt and dark-coloured jeans.

Detective Constable Liam Moss, of Dorset County CID, said: “We are carrying out a number of enquiries to identify those responsible for this robbery and assault, and I would like to hear from any witnesses who were in the area and may have seen what happened.

“I would also urge motorists who were driving in the area and have dashcam fitted, as well as residents in the vicinity with home CCTV systems, to please review their footage from around the time of the incident to see if they have captured anything that might assist our investigation.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Dorset Police at www.dorset.police.uk or by calling 101, quoting occurrence number 55240114586. Alternatively, independent charity Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously online at Crimestoppers-uk.org or by calling Freephone 0800 555 111.
