Get Ready for a New and Improved Quiet Experience this November

Dorset Museum & Art Gallery has revamped the format of their Relaxed Openings to offer new and improved Quiet Openings which provide a calm environment for individuals and families alike to explore the Museum at their own pace.

Following invaluable visitor feedback, Dorset Museum & Art Gallery has extended the hours of Quiet Openings so that they run from 9:00am to 12:00noon, allowing you more time to explore, engage with exhibits, and enjoy activities in a quieter setting.

The next Quiet Opening will take place on Saturday 2 November, 9:00am – 12:00noon. During these sessions, the large screens in the galleries will be turned off, and where possible, lights will be low. Staff and volunteers at Dorset Museum & Art Gallery will be on hand to help with any questions and there will also be sensory activities in the Learning Centre for family visitors to dip into should they wish.

Whilst these openings are especially suitable for visitors with autism and other sensory conditions, all visitors who would like to visit the Museum in a calm and relaxed atmosphere are welcome. Visitors should note that some displays and interpretive panels may be switched off during this time, but those that normally have sound will still be accessible with captions. At 12:00noon, the Museum will return to regular operation with full function of displays, however Quiet Opening visitors are welcome to stay in the Museum for as long as they like.

There is no need to book for the Quiet Openings, but usual admission charges apply.
