It’s not the best of weekends for our local senior football teams, with only one managing to record a solitary league point.
Weymouth hosted Chesham Town for a National League South fixture, and the Terras went a goal down in the 12th minute, scored by Samson Esan.
The Generals held on to their narrow lead until the 84th minute when the Terras equalised through Charlie Rowan.
Our Man at the Match said: “It was a lively game with lots of end-to-end action. Their goal was well taken, and at that stage of the game, it was fair. In the second half, the Terras’ keeper Buse made a couple of great saves to keep Weymouth in the game”.
“Then Charlie Rowan equalised following a goal mouth scramble, and going into the final minutes, the Terras looked more likely to score, but it wasn’t to be, and Weymouth are still rock bottom of the league table”.
Dorchester hosted Hanwell Town at the Avenue Stadium for a Southern Premier League game, but the Magpies couldn’t manage to work the scoreboard operator and eventually lost the game by 3 goals to nil.
Portland crossed the Solent to play Cowes in a Wessex Premier League fixture and were almost on the ferry back across the water when the Yachtsmen scored the only goal of the game in the 89th minute.
Bridport crashed out of the FA Vase at St. Mary’s Field, beaten by visitors Hamble 2 nil.
In the local rugby, first off was the first of Weymouth & Portland’s doubleheader away against East Dorset Dockers. The Shehorses, the women’s team, kicked off at 12:00pm and lost the game by 7 points to 5, but the Seahorses, the men’s team, ran out 22 points to 5 victors.
Swanage & Wareham played out a 66-point thriller away against Chippenham’s second team, with the final result, points shared 33 each.
Dorchester went down at Sherborne by 52 points to 7, Bridport beat Lytchett Minster by 18 points to 7, Puddletown returned to winning ways following their defeat last week with 21 points to 10 win at Greenfields against North Dorset’s second team, and Swanage & Wareham’s seconds beat visitors Blandford by 25 points to 7.
On Sunday, the Dorchester Town Ladies team drew 3 goals each at Shaftsbury, with Zara Hunt netting twice and Naomi Johnson adding a third goal. And, the Bridport Ladies team beat Ilminster Ladies by 4 goals to 3 at home with Aleeshea Rowland scoring 2 goals, and Holly Perriment and Maise MacDonald both chipping in with a goal each.
