Following their FA Trophy fourth-round exploits on Tuesday evening at Huish Park, where Weymouth returned to the Bob Lucas Stadium after beating their full-time arch-rivals Yeovil by 2 goals to one, courtesy of a brace of goals from the former Glovers’ striker Brandon Goodship, it’s back to National League South action on Saturday when the Terras interim manager Jason Matthews takes his team to the Focus Community Stadium Vauxhall Road to meet Hemel Hempstead.
Weymouth are still deep in the relegation zone, in fact in 24th place and rock bottom of the league table. However, they do have a game in hand over the four teams above them, but they are seven points adrift of league safety.
Dorchester takes the road to Waterside Drive to play Walton & Hersham. This game can definitely be described as a six-pointer as the Swans are currently in 6th place in the Southern Premier League table with a record of 9 played with 27 points. In comparison, the Magpies are just one place above with 30 points from 10 outings, so who bags the spoils from this one is anybody’s guess.
In the Wessex Premier League, Portland United visit Brockenhurst and in the Southwest Peninsular League East, Bridport hosts Elburton Villa at St. Marys’ Field.
In the local Tribute Rugby Leagues, Dorchester entertain Royal Wootton Bassett seconds at Coburg Road, and Swanage & Wareham play Melksham at Bestwall Park, both in the Southern Counties Division. In the Dorset & Wilts Leagues, Weymouth & Portland travel to Slaughtergate to lock horns with North Dorset’s second team, Bridport play East Dorset Dockers away, Lytchett Minster is visited by Blandford and Puddletown hosts Swanage & Wareham, ‘s second team at Greenfields.
On Sunday, Weymouth Football Club’s women welcome Weston Super Mare to the Bob Lucas Stadium, Dorchester Ladies visit Longfleet, and Bridport Women host their Wincanton Town counterparts.
Also on Sunday, the Dorset & Wilts under 18 rugby team play Gloucestershire under 18’s at Hartpury College and Weymouth & Portland Women host Trojans’ Women at Monmouth Avenue with that match starting at 2:00 pm.
