Weekend Sports Report

Weymouth Football Club’s new manager, Warren Feeney, took his team to Essex for his first National League South game at the helm of the Terras senior men’s team and returned to Dorset with a share of the points following their goalless draw against Chelmsford City.

In the Southern Premier League, Dorchester scored a 5-star display against visitors Tiverton Town.

Sahq Gwengwe opened the Magpies account in the 44th minute, followed by Olaf Koszela, Will Spetch, Matt Buse and Luke Roberts, to make the final score Dorchester 5 Tiverton nil.

In the Wessex Premier League, Portland United travelled to Sherborne for a Dorset Derby but returned to Grove Corner on the wrong end of 2 goals 1 scoreline, Troy Walbridge netting the Blue’s goal.

Bridport took the road at Honiton and shared the Southwest Peninsular League East points, drawing the game one goal apiece, with Joe Charles scoring for the Bees.

In the local Tribute Rugby Leagues, Dorchester went down at Devizes by 45 points to 26, Swanage & Wareham lost away against Royal Wootton Bassett’s second team by 47 points to 29, Blandford beat North Dorset at Larksmead by 38 points to 19, Lytchett Minster visited Wimborne to lock horns with Wimborne second team and travelled back with a 26 points to 12 victory and Bridport fought out a Dorset Derby against visitors Puddletown at Brewery Field with the West Dorset club bagging the spoils following the 38 points to 17 result.

In the annual Christmas Chase the Pudding beach race, Harry Tongue was the first Santa Claus to cross the finishing line in a time of 13 minutes one second; he will have the notoriety of wearing the Pudding costume and leading the Santas out in the next year’s contest.
