Social care and support: Do you know what opportunities are out there?

Dorset County Council is holding a Day Opportunities Event to let people know about the range of activities that are available in the Weymouth and Portland area.

The event aims to offer something for everyone, regardless of age, health or disability.
A wide variety of opportunities will cover areas such as education, work, volunteering, meeting friends, joining a club or visiting places.

Providers attending include:

* Andrew Simpson Watersports Centre

* Stepping into Nature

* Holtwood Community Farm

* Tricuro

* Muntsy’s

Cllr Jill Haynes, Cabinet member for Health and Care said: “This event is part of our ongoing work to personalise support and to enable people to identify their own needs and make choices about how and when they are supported to live their lives.

“There are so many opportunities out there that perhaps people aren’t aware of – so come along and talk to local day activity providers, find out what’s out there and book up for a taster session in something new.”
There will also be advice and information available about local transport, being more independent, getting a direct payment and carer support.

Carers, family and friends are welcome to attend.

The drop-in session is being held between 10am and 2pm at SafeWise (481 Radipole Lane, Weymouth, Dorset DT4 0QF) on 9 March. There are accessible facilities and a cafe for refreshments.

The event is open to all who attend a day centre or receive a direct payment in the Weymouth and Portland area, as well as their friends, carers and family.
