Dorchester Lions are busy organising their annual charity timed 10k and 2k Fun Runs, to be held on the morning of Sunday 5th. May, starting from the Dorchester Middle School at 10.30 a.m.
This is the 37th year of the Fun Run and in that time over £250,000 has been raised for local charities and good causes.
This truly community event gives all participants the opportunity to raise money for their favorite cause or charity.
As in previous years both runs will start from the school site in Coburg Road, Dorchester with the usual choice of two routes. The flat, safe 2k route skirts Phase 1 of Poundbury and involves only one well-marshalled road crossing. Entrants of all ages and abilities can run, jog or walk or even pushed in a buggy or wheelchair. Dorchester Lions are proud to welcome the Friends of DCH this year, raising funds for the Respiratory Department with a sponsored wheelchair push. Fancy dress is encouraged for the occasion and Dorchester’s very own ‘Flying Nun’, Sister Augustine from Falmouth, will be travelling up specially for Fun Run!
The timed 10k run, now in its 8th year, has gained popularity year on year and takes in the scenes and challenges of Maiden Castle. Seasoned club runners are particularly enthusiastic about the course!
All entrants will be presented with a medal after they cross the line at the finish to mark their achievement. Individual 10k category winners will each receive a prize.
There will be registration on the day from 09.00 til 10.15 but the Lions are encouraging all entrants to pre-register on-line if possible , to help smooth arrangements on run day.
For 10k registration, enter through one of two websites, ‘RiderHQ’ or ‘Full On Sport’ and event search ‘Dorchester Lions 10k and Fun Run 2019’ . Entrants for 2k can also enter on-line at the ‘Full on Sport’ website.
The Entry fee for the 10k remains at £14 for affiliated runners (£16 unaffiliated) .There is no cost to enter the 2k run but the Lions request that all those taking part in the 2k obtain sponsorship or make a donation of at least £5 to ensure the charity event is a continuing success . Andy Rose from the Lions has told Keep 106 If you are disappointed that your favourite annual run is not being held in Dorchester this year, then take part in either the Lions 2k or 10k. We’re proud that our main events give everyone an opportunity to raise money, through sponsorship, for the charity of their choice. In the course of a year Dorchester Lions help over 50 different charities or good causes that have been personally nominated by entrants. This is in addition to the main beneficiaries that Dorchester Lions support throughout the year.
This year Dorchester Lions are proud to announce that their main beneficiaries are ‘Mind in West Dorset’ and ‘Friends of Dorset County Hospital Ultrasound Appeal for the Respiratory Department.
