Young dancers from Dorset will be given the chance to perform for the ‘Strictly Junior Disco Ball’ this autumn, and help raise vital funds for Weldmar Hospicecare. This will be the second Strictly Junior competition held by the charity, with the inaugural event last year raising more than £10,000 and ‘Julie Storey’s Let’s Dance’ from Weymouth being crowned the winners.
11 year old Bria Thorne says, “It was an honour to be there because it was the most incredible thing I’ve ever done in my life!”.
Ruby Lily Petty, 14, adds, “the experience was just amazing – it was like nothing we’d ever done before and we were so happy to take part”.
Erin Newport, also 11, says other local dance groups should put themselves forward for this year’s competition, saying, “the atmosphere was really friendly and everyone was so nice … even the judges!”.
Local dance schools are being invited to apply to take part, with eight finalists being selected to learn a brand new routine and perform in front of a full house at Weymouth Pavilion in November.
Dancers must be under the age of sixteen.
Strictly Junior was introduced last year following the success of Weldmar Hospicecare’s ‘Strictly Ballroom’ competition for adults, which started in 2013.
Any local dance school who wants to find out more and apply should visit www.weld-hospice.org.uk.
