Dogs and community safety on the agenda

Councillors will examine work to improve community safety and plans to find out people’s views on dogs, when the Place Scrutiny Committee meets on Thursday. (24/10)

IMPROVING COMMUNITY SAFETY

Among the items on the agenda will be the annual Community Safety Report. The Place Scrutiny Committee is responsible for examining the work of the Dorset Community Safety Partnership. Councillors will scrutinise the Community Safety Plan, Reducing Re-offending Strategy and the Alcohol and Drugs Strategy. Councillors will consider whether to recommend these policies to Dorset Council for adoption.

ASKING PEOPLE ABOUT DOG RULES

Dorset Council is planning to ask people for their views on dogs in public places, such as beaches, before drawing up a new dog-related Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO). The Place Scrutiny Committee will examine plans to consult the public and consider recommending them to Dorset Council’s Cabinet.

The committee will also consider whether to recommend that the dog-related Public Spaces Protection Orders are temporarily extended so the new consultation can be prepared. It is anticipated that the new consultation, which will be widely publicised, will take place in January 2020.

FORWARD PLANS, MANAGING COMPLAINTS AND URGENT ITEMS

Other items on the agenda including forward plans, managing complaints and urgent items will also be considered by the committee.
