Weldmar ‘Light up a Life’ services return for Christmas 2019

Weldmar Hospicecare’s Light up a Life services return across Dorset between Wednesday 27th November and Tuesday 10th December. The services provide an opportunity for people to remember loved ones, whether they have been cared for by Weldmar or not.

The services combine readings and carol singing, and supported by local musicians and singers at each venue. Christmas trees are also lit up at each service, and a light on a tree can be dedicated to someone special who will be missed during the festive period, when feelings of loss can be at their strongest.

The services will be led by Weldmar’s Spiritual Lead Lucyann Ashdown, and take place on the following dates:

• Wed 27th November – Castle Gardens, Sherborne – 6.30pm

• Thu 28th November – Orchard Park Garden Centre, Gillingham – 6.30pm

• Sun 1st December – Holme for Gardens, Wareham – 4pm

• Tue 3rd December – Weldmar’s Inpatient Unit, Herringston Road, Dorchester – 6.30pm

• Thu 5th December – Groves Nurseries & Garden Centre, Bridport – 6pm

• Sun 8th December – Hope Square, Brewer’s Quay, Weymouth – 5pm

• Tue 10th December – Abbotsbury Subtropical Gardens – 4pm

This year, a Light up a Life service will be held in Bridport for the first time, at Groves Garden Centre. Owner Charlie Groves says, “We are very honoured to hosting Bridport’s first Light up A Life. Weldmar help so many people through difficult times and this is such a lovely way to remember loved ones who can’t be with us at Christmas.”

Also brand new for this year will be eco-friendly wooden stars that can be purchased at each service for £2, and a message can be handwritten on them before being hung on the Christmas trees, or taken home.

Light up a Life is being supported for the fourth consecutive year by Dream Cottages, who will be providing refreshments at the Weymouth service at Brewers Quay.

Hayley Oats from Dream Cottages says, “We have been proudly sponsoring the Light up a life service for four years now. It’s a very special time of year and an opportunity for the local community to come together and remember loved ones whilst also raising funds for such a valued charity”.

To dedicate a light on one of the Christmas trees at a Light up a Life service to a loved one, visit the Weldmar Hospicecare website or call 01305 261800.
