Stop checks help to enforce the rules

Traffic officers, from Dorset Police, have been carrying out road checks across the County.

“It was nice to see that members of the public welcomed the work we were doing, although it inconvenienced motorists for a few short minutes, they were all very supportive of what we are all trying to achieve.”

As well as setting up static check points they have also been stopping motorists whilst on mobile patrol. The majority of motorists were out for one of the specific reasons given, however one of the motorists stopped had come down from Southampton for a day out in Weymouth, this motorist was advised to return home.

Another motorist that wasn’t on an essential journey was found to be under the influence of drugs and failed a roadside drug test, the driver’s vehicle was also found to be in a dangerous condition. The driver has been arrested.

“This isn’t for debate! This is real. STAY HOME, PROTECT THE NHS, SAVE LIVES. Keep up the great work NHS colleagues. We will do our bit by trying to keep people off the roads and in their homes. #staysafe”
