Officers from Weymouth Team Purple, the Neighbourhood Policing Team and colleagues from Dorset & Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service were called to Teddy Bear Woods today (Wed 27 May) following reports of groups creating fires.
On arrival, 2 seats of smouldering embers were located and quickly extinguished.
This comes after hundreds of hectares of woodland in Dorset were destroyed in a recent blaze. Crews across Dorset as well as from Somerset, Devon and Hampshire were dealing with this fire at Wareham Forest last week.
Weymouth and Portland Police send this message to the community: “Please do not start any fires in wooded areas and refrain from using portable BBQ equipment directly on the ground to avoid unnecessary damage to our countryside”.
