Weymouth’s proposed new children’s home in Dorchester Road will also have two ‘flatlets’ for emergency use and a centre for supervised visits between children in care and their family.
The centre itself will house 4-5 children, most likely teenagers, with other facilities in the converted former registry office building.
The new building will be mainly constructed elsewhere and craned in.
Neighbours have been told they shouldn’t be overlooked and neither should they have their light blocked by the new building on the Kildare Court side of the site. It will be two storeys facing Dorchester Road, reducing to one at the rear.
If the process goes smoothly and planning consent is granted it could be ready for occupation in winter 2021/22.
Dorset Council currently has 482 children in its care, 60 of them living outside the county.
