The annual GP Patient Survey (GPPS) conducted by Ipsos MORI has once again seen GP practices in Dorset score highly.
Across the NHS Dorset CCG area over 21,813 questionnaires were sent out between January and March 2020 asking people for their opinions on everything from their overall experience to how involved they felt with their treatment and how easy it is to speak to someone over the phone.
43% were completed and returned (9,478) and results show:
- nearly 9 out 10 people registered with a GP practice in Dorset describe their experience of their practice as good – higher than the national average.
- Reception staff also get praised with 92% of respondents describing reception staff at their practice either Very helpful or Fairly helpful compared to a national average of 89%.
- 83% of people who responded felt that they had enough support from local services or organisations to help manage their condition or conditions, again higher than the national average of 77%.
- nearly three in four (74%) of people who responded described their experience of making an appointment at either Very good or Fairly good compared to the national figure of 65%.
Dr Forbes Watson is a GP in Lyme Regis and Chair of NHS Dorset CCG.
He said “Health services continue to face increasing demands and challenges in particular over the last few months, so overall I am very pleased with the positive results shown in the survey which are down to the hard work of everyone working in primary care.
“We do of course recognise in places we could do better so please be assured we are all working extremely hard and adopting new ways of working, such as eConsult and remote consultations to help ensure people get the right help they need when they need it.”
