A significant amount of rainfall and very strong winds, reaching up to 65mph along coastal areas, are expected from 3am Friday morning through to 8pm that evening. Then a further warning for more very heavy rain from 3am Saturday morning through to 6pm on Sunday evening.
Dorset Council and the Environment Agency will monitor roads prone to flooding throughout the weekend and may need to close roads if there’s a danger to the public. The council is asking people to take extra care over the weekend and to follow this advice:
- Stay away from cliffs – rockfalls are extremely likely
- Be careful on beaches, especially at high tide
- Drivers should be aware of the weather conditions and check routes before starting any journey
- Do not drive through flood water
- Secure any garden furniture
Cllr Ray Bryan, Dorset Council’s portfolio holder for Highways, Travel and Environment, said:
“We want residents and visitors to stay safe and well. With winds this strong and with the amount of rain forecast, there is a possibility of risk to life, especially along the coast.
“We will be working alongside our partners to make sure everyone is as safe as possible this weekend, but our advice is to stay away from flooded areas and take extra care if you head to the coast.”
