Witness appeal following road traffic collision near Bere Regis

Officers investigating a road traffic collision near Bere Regis are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

Shortly after 7.25am on Friday 16 April 2021 a collision occurred on the A35 on Sugar Hill close to Bere Regis, involving a tipper lorry, a silver Mitsubishi L200 and a black Range Rover.

The driver of the Mitsubishi – a man aged in his 70s and from the Poole area – sustained serious injuries and was taken to Southampton General Hospital by air ambulance. His condition remains serious, but stable.

The driver of the lorry – a man aged in his 50s and also from the Poole area – was uninjured.

The driver of the Range Rover – a man aged in his 50s and from the Curry Rivel area of Somerset – sustained largely minor injuries. Although he was taken to Poole Hospital, he has since been discharged.

The A35 was closed between Morden Park Corner and the Bere Regis roundabout while emergency services treated the injured drivers and examined the scene. The road was reopened at 3.25pm.

Police Constable Jay Griffin, of the traffic unit, said: “We are continuing to carry out enquiries into the full circumstances of the collision.

“I would urge any witnesses to the incident itself, or the manner of driving of the vehicles involved prior to it, who have not spoken to police yet to please come forward.

“I am also keen to hear from anyone who was driving in the area around the relevant time and has dashcam fitted to their vehicle to please check their footage for anything of relevance.

“Finally, I would like to thank motorists for their patience during the road closure, which was absolutely necessary to enable emergency services to attend the scene in a safe manner and provide medical assistance.”
