Mental Health Awareness Week
Mental Health Awareness Week begins on Monday 10 May and is hosted by the Mental Health Foundation, the theme for this year is nature.
The aim for the week is to inspire more people to notice and connect with nature in new ways. Stop to listen to the birds, smell the freshly cut grass, take care of a house plant, notice any trees, flowers or animals nearby. Take a moment to appreciate these connections.
If you want to get involved, you can share images/videos/or just sound recordings of the nature on your doorstep, and how this made you feel on social media using #ConnectWithNature and #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek
Diabetes Prevention Week
Type 2 Diabetes Prevention Week starts on Monday 10 May. About 90 per cent of people with diabetes have Type 2 diabetes. The signs may not be obvious, or there may be no signs at all, therefore it might be up to 10 years before you find out you have it.
It’s important to know the risk factors. Finding out your risk of Type 2 diabetes can only take a few minutes.
Improve Dorset’s mental wellbeing
We’ve teamed up with Bournemouth University to carry out a survey finding out what local people believe about mental health, how they feel about seeking support for their own mental health, and also how confident they are in supporting friends/family with their mental health.
We want to discover what barriers might exist when people need support. If you are over 18 and live in Dorset, we’d love to hear your thoughts – and we would be especially keen to hear from men.
