Dorset’s COVID-19 vaccination programme continues well on track with over three quarters of a million doses now delivered.
Figures published on 20 May show that 480,643 people in the county have received their first dose, with 292,315 receiving both doses since the launch of the vaccination programme late last year – a total of 772,958 doses.
- Over 60,000 people aged 40 – 44 have received at least one dose
- 35,326 people aged 45 – 49 have received at least one dose
- Nearly 102,000 people aged 50 – 59 have received at least one dose
- 290,000 second doses have been delivered across all age groups including 95% of those aged over 70
According to national data Dorset is one of the best performing counties.
Local Dorset GP, and Clinical Lead for the Dorset COVID-19 vaccination programme Dr Karen Kirkham is asking everyone who has been invited to get a jab to take up the offer. She said “Delivering over 750,000 doses is a massive achievement and is testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved.
“We have made incredible progress so far and what is really important now is that people continue to take up of the offer of a vaccination and those who have had their first dose come and get their second when invited to give them the strongest possible protection against the virus.
“Getting vaccinated is the best way of protecting yourself and reducing the spread COVID-19. We have come this far by working together to protect each other and we need to continue watching out for each other at this time and not let the prospect of a better summer slip from our grasp.”

“It’s been fantastic to see the enthusiasm for the COVID-19 vaccination rollout across the county with over three quarters of a million doses given in Dorset so far. In recent weeks we’ve seen the earlier groups coming back in for their second doses as well as some of the younger age groups coming to get their first jab.
“As we look ahead to more restrictions easing, getting vaccinated is one of the best ways you can protect yourself and others around you, so please do keep booking in and attending your appointments when you’re invited.”
