Sunday the 23rd May 2021 was the 90th birthday of a very special man to the RNLI.
Joe Waterman was one of the charity’s dedicated army of fund raisers who are the volunteer workforce that enable the public to support the RNLI to save lives at sea.
For over twenty years Joe did his bit for the charity by organising a huge team of supporters to do the annual house to house collections in Weymouth.
He then did the counting of the money and banking it. That in itself is no mean feat, with thousands of pounds mostly in coins needing to be counted and bagged before being taken to the bank.
The station Treasurer Heather Gardener said: “Joe was always very efficient in recording the money collected and produced spread sheets that I could use to complete the station financial records”.
Di Ludlow who was head of the events committee for many years said that Joe could always be relied on for collecting for flag days and lifeboat week and whenever he was called upon.
All at Weymouth RNLI Lifeboat Station wish Joe an incredibly Happy 90th Birthday and thank him for his years of being an unsung hero fund raiser.
