Serious assault in Weymouth – witness appeal

Detectives investigating an alleged serious assault in Weymouth are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

It is reported that at around 3.10am on Saturday 23 July 2022 a 19-year-old man was assaulted by two men on St Edmund Street.

The victim was reportedly knocked unconscious and sustained a serious head injury. He was taken to hospital for treatment.

Officers attended and a 25-year-old Dorchester man and a 28-year-old man from Wiltshire were arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm without intent. They have both been released under investigation while enquiries continue.

Detective Constable Jacqui Gravenor, of Dorset County CID, said: “A full investigation is underway into this incident and detectives are carrying out a number of enquiries in the area, including checking CCTV systems.

“I understand there were a number of people in the vicinity at the time and I would urge anyone who witnessed what happened, or filmed it on their mobile phone, to please come forward.”
