Sports Report – Ironman and football

In excess of 2500 athletes took part in the Weymouth Ironman 70 .3, 2022 race on Sunday 18th September.

The event kicked off at 7 15 am with a 1.2-mile swim off of Preston Beach in almost perfect conditions, with flat calm seas, then transitioned into a 56-mile tour of Dorset cycle race and then back to Weymouth to transition again into a 13.1 mile run around the town.

As the competitors made their way along Weymouth esplanade, they were cheered on by crowds of onlookers right up to the finishing line in front of the town’s Pavilion Theatre.

First to cross the finishing line was Donald Brooks in a time of 4 hours 11 minutes and 10 seconds, followed by Lewis Donovan in 4 hours 12 minutes and 23 seconds and in third place was Will Grace in 4 hours 16 minutes and 54 seconds.

The first women home was Natalie Lawerence.

In the football on Saturday Weymouth progressed into the next round of the FA Cup with a 3 goals to one win away at Winchester City.

The Terrras goals coming from Harry Kyprianou , Brad Ash and Ahkeem Rose. Dorchester went out of the competition loosing 1 – 0 at Swindon Supermarine, Portland beat Moneyfields by 3 goals to 2 and Bridport lost 2 – 0 at St. Marys against visitors Dartmouth.

In the rugby both Weymouth and Portland and Dorchester’s matches were cancelled, Puddletown were beaten by Oakmeadians 41 – 7 and Swanage and Wareham ran up a cricket score against visitors Frome A XV winning 107 – 5 while the Swans second team drew 19 points all with Lytchett Minster.
