Weekend Sports Report

Weymouth Football Club picked up their first home victory of the season on Saturday at the Bob Lucas Stadium where they beat visitors Braintree Town courtesy of a Dan Matsuzaka strike to make the final score Weymouth 1 Braintree nil.

Before the game kicked off the visitors were in 6th place in the National League South with the Terras propping up the table, little has changed with Weymouth still in 24th place, but with 2 games in hand the teams above them will now be looking over their shoulders at a resurgent Weymouth side.

On Tuesday evening the Terras travel to play AFC Wimbledon at Plough Lane for their first round FA Cup replay.

In the Southern League Dorchester drew nil nil at Hendon with their new keeper Lloyd Thomas saving a penalty.

In the Wessex League Portland United travelled to play AFC Stoneham and were on the wrong end of 6 goals to nil result while in the South Peninsular League East Bridport lost 3 1 away at Teignmouth.

On Sunday Weymouth’s Womens team went out of the Vitality Women’s FA Cup in the first-round proper at the Bob Lucas loosing 5 nil to visitors Keynsham women.

In the Tribute Southern Counties South Dorchester Rugby Club’s senior xv visited Wimborne and talled up 12 points, unfortunately their hosts out scored by 27 points to make the score Wimborne 39 points to Dorchester’s 12. In the same division Swanage & Wareham fought a close-run encounter at Bestwall Park narrowly beating their guests Blandford by 29 points to 26.

In Tribute Dorset & Wilts League for the third time this season Weymouth & Portland were denied a game by their scheduled opposition crying off, this time it was Bournemouth Rugby Club’s third team the Wanderers which left the Seahorses coach Rich Bament very disappointed that his team were going to be inactive yet again.

Puddletown beat East Dorset Dockers by 60 points to 12 and Bridport handed out a massive 102 points to nil hiding to the Swan’s second team at Brewery Field.
