Weekend Sports Report

Weymouth football club squandered their opportunity to move off of the foot of the National League South League table and were only able to pocket a solitary point from their relegation clash with the team just 1 place and 1 point above them Cheshunt with neither side bothering troubling the scoreboard operator.

At the Avenue Stadium Dorchester’s unbeaten run of 7 Southern League games came to an abrupt halt at the hands of visitors Chesham who when they had run the journey out of their legs took control in the second half of the game and scored 3 unanswered goals after trailing 1 nil at the break to an Alfie Stanley scorcher.

Before the game on loan striker Olaf Koszela was awarded with the Magpies Player of the Month of November trophy voted for by the fans.

In the Wessex league Portland United lost out by 3 goals to 1 beaten by visitors to Grove Corner Baffins Milton Rovers.

In the South West Peninsular League East Bridport drew 1 goal apiece with Crediton United at St Mary’s.

In the local rugby Tribute Southern Counties South Dorchester were beaten 17 points to 30 at Coburg Road by visitors North Dorset, Swanage & Wareham had a home walk over when scheduled visitors Trowbridge second team failed to turn up and Blandford were beaten by 28 points to 8 at Avonvale.

In Tribute Dorset & Wilts Division 1 Weymouth & Portland beat visitors Lytchett Minster in a close fought encounter by 13 points to 7. The Seahorses led by 3 points to nil at the break with Hamish Jeffcott kicking a penalty then Billy Hayne crashed over from a lineout to touchdown for a try for Weymouth & Portland.

The visitors responded with a converted try to put them within 1 point of the home sides total and with the result still in doubt former Dorchester captain and Dorset & Wilts county wing forward James Newsome sealed the victory for the Seahorses with a try at the death.

On Sunday Weymouth Football Club’s Women’s team entertained Middlezoy Women at the Bob Lucas Stadium and trailed by 2 goals to nil at half time in the second half the Terras women had opportunities to get on the scoresheet, but failed to take their chances. The visitors didn’t add to their first half score so it’s Middlezoy who travel home with 3 more league points in the bank.
