The EBIKE Cafe celebrated its 2nd birthday and moved into their third year of trading. They chose their Christmas Shopping Event to announce this year’s charitable partner, Weldmar Hospicecare. At the event £792 was raised for Weldmar, which got the partnership off to a cracking start.
Each year the hip cafe on Weymouth’s harbour side chooses a local organisation to work with. In 2022 the EBIKE Cafe raised over £2,000 for All Saints CE Academy Parents Teacher Association.
During the short illness of Margaret Barkway, owner Josephine Claxton’s Mum, she received hospice care in Dorchester and at home from Weldmar’s nursing team. Josephine and her husband Peter wanted to give back to the charity.
Josephine explains, “My Mum was a force of nature and when she was diagnosed with cancer it knocked all of us for six. The help and support Weldmar gave my Mum, Dad and the whole family was exceptional. From helping Mum at home, to those final days in the hospice. Then with the family afterwards was simply stunning. We never knew the breadth of help and support that Weldmar offered. Weldmar were there with my Mum every step through her illness. That’s why this year, we choose Weldmar Hospicecare as our second yearly Charitable Partner.”
This year the EBIKE Cafe will be raising money through special events and by amending their menu. They have rebranded their very popular cappuccino to the Weldmarccino. For every one sold, 10p will go to Weldmar Hospicecare.
Josephine added, “We want to do something simple and fun and from that thought the Weldmarccino was born. When customers read about it on the menu it sparks a conversation and we tell them about what Weldmar has done for the community and our family. I can tell you there have been a few tears shed by them and us.”
Fiona Hansford, Development Fundraiser at Weldmar Hospice Care, welcomes the working partnership with the EBIKE Cafe. She told KeeP 106: “I am delighted that Ebike Café have chosen to support Weldmar Hospicecare as their charity of the year. On behalf of all the team at Weldmar Hospicecare, I’d like to say a huge thank you to Josephine, Peter and the team for their support, which will help us to continue to provide specialist care to people in Dorset who have a life limiting illness, and support for their loved ones. We are very much looking forward to working with them throughout the year ahead and already have some exciting plans in place.”
