Weekend Sport Report

Mixed fortunes for our local sports teams this weekend, Weymouth Football Club’s Senior Men’s team travelled to Hemel Hempstead for a National League South fixture and returned to Dorset on the wrong end of 2 goals to 1 score line.

The Terras took a 23rd minute lead after Jack Westbrook put the ball into his own net and took that advantage into the second half only then to concede twice after the break, a result that only adds to their relegation concerns.

In the Southern League Dorchester hosted Hanwell at the Avenue Stadium and emerged 3 nil victors, their scores coming from Charlie Gunson who netted twice and Jordan Ngalo.

Portland travelled to Baffins Milton Rovers in the Wessex League and were shaded out by the only goal of the game.

On Sunday afternoon the Terras’s senior women’s squad restored the club’s reputation winning away against Stockwood Wanderers 6 – 1.

The Terras ladies scores came from two goals each for Zara Hunt and Charlie Wilson, and one each for Annie Redding and Ruby Clark.

In the local rugby Weymouth & Portland tightened their grip on the Tribute Dorset & Wilts Division 1 championship with a resounding 41 points to 12 victory at Monmouth Avenue against Wimborne Extra First xv and in the same division Puddletown won a local derby at Greenfields against Bridport by 22 points to 17.

In Tribute Southern Counties South Dorchester had a resounding 79 points to 5 win at Coburg Road against Trowbridge second team and Blandford went down by 61 points to 7 at Royal Wootton Bassett while Swanage & Wareham had a home walk over when Avonvale couldn’t raise a team.

Jordan Nagalo contests the ball with Aaron McLeish-White.
