Bon Voyage to 30 members of Dorchester Choral Society who are travelling, just after Easter, to join with choirs from France and Germany to sing in Bayeux Cathedral on 14th April.
The choirs come from the towns that are twinned with Dorchester: L’Orphéon Choir, Bayeux, France and Andreaskirche Lübbecke, Germany. This is the latest of a series of cultural exchanges dating back to 1975, interrupted only by Covid travel restrictions.
The first half of the concert will feature contributions from the individual choirs who will then join together in the second half to sing Gabriel Fauré’s popular “Requiem”. For Dorchester Choral Society, the Requiem will be a reprise of a performance that they gave to great acclaim earlier this month at St Mary’s Church Dorchester.
Director of Music, Colin Howard, is looking forward to the trip: “We are all really excited to be able to resume our joint concerts. A special feature this time round is that we will be able to showcase some fine works by British composers such as William Byrd and Thomas Tallis. And singing in the wonderful cathedral at Bayeux will be very special.”
