Weymouth senior men’s football team have just 3 games remaining to retain their National League South status following their 2 goals to 1 defeat away at Hampton & Richmond. The Terras led by a Bradley Ash strike in the 23rd minute right until the 77th minute when their hosts drew level Weymouth held on to the point right up until 89th minute of the game when Hampton took the lead and then ran down the clock until the final whistle.
Dorchester football club’s defender Keith Emmerson drew the curtain down on his 24 years semi-pro football career at the Avenue Stadium in the Magpies 3 goals to 2 victory over visitors Hendon. Keith who reached the age of 40 recently and has played over 1000 competitive matches. He was presented with a glass trophy by manager Glenn Howes before the game and was applauded onto the pitch by players of both sides who formed a tunnel as he entered the arena.
As for the game the Magpies had to come from behind, they were a goal down when Charlie Gunson struck a free kick past the Hendon keeper Aymen Azaze’s despairing dive into the back of the net from over 20 yards out then Hendon drew level, but on the stroke of half time Dorchester levelled the scores again through Alfie Stanley.
It was cut and thrust after the break with both sides going close, but it was Stanley’s 56th minute drive that sealed the points for Dorchester, making the final score Dorchester 3 Hendon 2.
Portland United travelled to Alresford Town for a Wessex League fixture and returned to Dorset with a 3 nil victory. The Blues goals coming from Ben Morris 2 and Bailey Rowe. Bridport however could not emulate the Blues’ success, losing 1 nil at Brixham.
On Sunday Weymouth’s women’s team travelled to play the league champions Pucklechurch and went don by 3 goals to nil.
