A Day At The Races courtesy of The Lugger Inn

As part of King Charles III Coronation celebrations, The Lugger Inn, Chickerell, launched their Life & Soul Community Trust.  The intention of the Trust is to provide support to those within the local community, whether monetary or otherwise, to bring happiness to others, promote wellbeing and nurture a strong community spirit.

Organisers have lost no time in launching their first event, “A Day at The Races” on Saturday 27th May from 12 midday at The Lugger Inn Chickerell, with the first race at 13h15.  This will be the first outdoor Race Day event that has been held in the village and almost 100 people have already pledged their support for the event.

Liam Coles, owner of the Lugger Inn said “We are excited to host the Trust’s first event. The Race Day will be a family event with a chance to dress up, enjoy some sport, food, and music as a local community, whilst raising funds for the Life & Soul Trust. The event will have a “Ladies Day” theme, and we will be awarding prizes for the best dressed visitors.  We hope that people will join in with the spirit of the event by either pre-booking a table or simply by turning up on the day to this free event.  The Race Day will have the usual pre-recorded races shown on the large outside screen. Visitors will be invited to place small bets on horses in each of the eight races. There will be a live band after the racing has finished. Representatives of the Trust will be available all day for any questions about the Trust’s work and to sign up potential volunteers”.

Several local businesses have already pledged their support for the Race Day by purchasing tables and advertising, providing raffle prizes plus providing sponsorship of outside Horse Box Bar serving Gin, Prosecco and Pimms, a Cider bar and the Woodshed BBQ Kitchen.

If you would like to donate raffle prizes, please take them to The Lugger by Weds 24th May or if you would like to get involved with the Lugger Inn Community Trust on future events please sign up on the day.

Visitors are encouraged to use public transport as there will be very limited parking at the venue.
