All of the Dorset League Cricket on Saturday was washed out, however the Beach Volleyball players competing in the Weymouth Beach Classic were made of stronger stuff. They played throughout Saturday despite the horrendous conditions and finished the competition on time.
Event Director Peter Bennett said that it was the 40th time the competition had been held in Weymouth since it began in 1983 and it had all gone as planned despite the wind and rain.
There were mixed fortunes for our local football teams in their pre-season campaigns this weekend.
Weymouth travelled to play Swindon Supermarine and won that one by 2 goals to 1. The Terras scores coming from Dan Roberts and Frankie Monk, meanwhile at the Avenue Stadium Dorchester were beaten by the same scoreline, their goal coming from Jordan Nagalo, but it has to said there were a number of un-named trialists in the Magpies team.
At St Mary’s Bridport hosted Bournemouth Poppies and ran out 4 goals to 2 winners, their scores coming from Tom Richardson, George Calverly, Sol Ayunga and James Cox.
