Weekend Sports Report

Before Weymouth senior men’s team travelled to Dover for a Nation League South fixture the Terras’ manager Bobby Wilkinson signed striker Ezio Touray and what an inspired signing he proved out to be netting a brace of goals on his debut with Joel Rollinson adding a third for the Terras to make the final score Dover 1 Weymouth 3.

In the Southern Premier League Dorchester hosted manager-less basement side Swindon Supermarine at the Avenue Stadium and recorded 2 goals to 1 win.

Leighton Thomas netted the Magpies opener with Shaq Gwengwe tallying up his quota for the season to 6 with a late penalty after he had been fouled in the box.

Both clubs had one of their staff red carded inside second half injury time, for Dorchester coach Brian Churchill and caretaker manager Rhys Evans of Super were ordered off the touchline.

In the Wessex League Portland United left Grove Corner on route for Fareham at 10 30 am, but due to circumstances way beyond their control arrived at the ground too late to start and the referee called the match off.

Southwest Peninsular League East highflyers Bridport extended their winning run to 6 wins from 6 outings with 6 goals to 3 victory at St Mary’s against visitors Crediton.

Their prodigious striker Riley Weedon took the match ball home after netting a hat trick with Fred Parsons, George Calverly and Sol Ayunga all grabbing a goal apiece for the Bees.

In the local rugby Tribute Southern Counties League, a much-changed Weymouth and Portland side hosted North Dorset at Monmouth Avenue and went down by 29 points to 41.

Both teams crossed for 5 tries, but the visitors punished the Seahorses by converting more of their kicking opportunities.

In the same division Swanage & Wareham made it 2 wins from 2 games, beating Frome by 26 points 13 at Bestwall Park while Dorchester travelled to Walcot and lost out by 48 points to 10.

On Sunday Weymouth Football Club’s women’s team were on the road at Basingstoke for a Women’s FA Cup tie and will be going into the next weeks draw after returning to the Bob Lucas Stadium with 4 goals to 2 win in the bank.

Kaydee Thornicroft scored twice for the Terras’ ladies with Ellia Webb and Charlie Wilson also scoring a goal each for Weymouth.

Weymouth FC Women’s development team were also in action on Sunday and picked up a hard fought point, keeping a clean sheet in a goalless draw with Longham.
