Weekend Sport Report

Weymouth had to come from behind to snatch a National League South point at the Bob Lucas Stadium and they had to do it the hard way playing most of the second half a man down after Jordon Thompsom had seen red in the 53rd minute of the game for what our man at the match said appeared to be a fair shoulder to shoulder challenge, he added, “It was a good point for Weymouth particularly as they had to play most of the second half with 10 men, the Terras improved after the break and were unlucky not to snatch the winner when Ezio Touray’s attempted overhead kick went just wide of the post in the final action of the game”.

And it was that man Toruray who salvaged the sole point for his team with a late strike to make his tally to 5 goals in 3 outings for the Terras.

In the Southern League Dorchester ran out 3 goals to 1 victors at the Avenue Stadium against visitors Didcot.

Shaq Gwengwe opened the Magpies account with Leighton Thomas and new boy Will Spetch both adding a goal each.

In the FA Vase Portland United travelled to Wincanton and returned with 4 goals to 2 result in the bank that will see the Blues go into the hat for next week’s second round draw.

Striker Greg Borthwick took the match ball home after netting a hat-trick with Ryan McKechnie also scoring for United.

In the local rugby Weymouth & Portland were leading the game by 20 points to 19 with 2 minutes left to play against their guests Sherborne, then the outcome of the game hinged on an incident just inside the visitor’s half.

Seahorse’s player Scott Greaney was bundled into touch and then appeared to be late tackled when play had been halted.

This resulted in a spot handbags that eventually saw the referee order Greaney into the sin bin and awarded Sherborne a penalty kick.

They kicked it into touch deep inside Weymouth & Portland territory, won the resulting lineout and went over for a try denying the Seahorses their first home win since gaining promotion into the Southern Counties League.

Fullback Reece Makin touched down for 2 tries for the Seahorses with Ryan Lewendon kicking 2 penalties and 2 conversions.

Other rugby results, Swanage & Wareham 33 v North Dorset 25. Dorchester Axv 24 v Puddletown 19.
