Appeal for witnesses following alleged assaults in Weymouth

Police officers investigating reported assaults outside a supermarket in Weymouth are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

An incident took place at Asda on Newstead Road between 5.30pm and 6pm on Monday 18 September 2023 involving a group of people reported to be acting anti-socially.

As the group were leaving the store, it is reported that an altercation occurred involving a female member of the group and two off-duty police officers. One of the police officers sustained cuts and scratches to his arms.

Further officers attended and a 19-year-old woman from Weymouth was arrested nearby on suspicion of common assault of an emergency worker. She has been released on police bail while enquiries continue.

During the arrest, it is alleged that the woman assaulted two other police officers, causing a minor injury to one of them.

Police Constable Alison Baker, of Dorset Police, said: “I am keen to speak to anyone who was at Asda at the time of the incident and may have witnessed what happened, or captured anything of relevance on mobile phone or dashcam footage.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Dorset Police at www.dorset.police.uk or by calling 101, quoting occurrence number 55230148242. Alternatively, independent charity Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously online at Crimestoppers-uk.org or by calling Freephone 0800 555 111.
