Weekend Sports Report

Weymouth’s flirtation with the FA Cup lasted a little over 90 minutes at the Bob Lucas Stadium where they went out of the competition at the first hurdle losing by 2 goals to 1 against visitors Bath City.

The Terras trailed by a goal to nil at the break and went further behind in the 76th minute when the conceded a second goal.

Then 2 minutes into overtime, Weymouth grabbed a goal courtesy of Tom Bearwish but it came too late to affect the result and it’s the Romans who go into the hat for Monday’s draw.

Our Man at the Match said: “Bath deserved their win, they did a professional job from the kickoff. Apart from Weymouth’s goal they never really troubled the Bath keeper, and you can see why they are on top of the league table. The Match sponsors awarded Calvin Brooke as their man of the match and I agree with that”.

Dorchester had a weekend off while Portland beat Bournemouth Poppies by 2 goals to nil at Grove Corner in a Wessex League fixture with the Blues scores coming from Greg Borthwick and Joe Wickham.

In Southwest Peninsular East Bridport were losing 2 nil at St Mary’s to visitors Bovey Tracey, but after the turn around Luke King, Tom Richardson and Riley Weedon all netted for the Bees to snatch victory by 3 goals to 2.

At the Avenue Stadium Dorchester Sports beat Balti Sports by 2 goals to 1. The Currymen ended up with 10 players on the park after center forward Derek Wall was dismissed for clashing with Dorchester keeper Nick Hutchins.

A red card seemed to be a little harsh as both players appeared to be going for the ball. But what was more important was that both players walked away from the incident after treatment and the point of view from the touchline was that it could have been a great deal worse.

On Sunday afternoon Weymouth’s women’s football team travelled to Sherborne for a Women’s FA Cup tie, unfortunately it didn’t go well for the Terras’ Ladies who were beaten by 4 goals to nil.

In the local rugby Tribute Southern Counties League Weymouth & Portland travelled deep into Wiltshire to play Corsham and went down by a solitary point 28 points to 27, their scores coming from Luke Beynon, Joe Gibson and James Baker who also kicked 3 conversions and 2 penalties.

The Seahorses man of the match award went to Edward Van Duers Goss. Dorchester drew 26 points all against league leaders Royal Wootton Bassett second team and Swanage & Wareham lost by 29 points to 9 at Sherborne.

In the Tribute Dorset & Wilts Leagues Bridport were beaten by 11 points to 42 at Brewery Field by visitors North Dorset second team, Blandford beat East Dorset Dockers away by 31 points to 9 and Puddletown had a Home Walk Over when Ellingham & Ringwood failed to raise a team to travel to Greenfields.
