Weekend Sports Report

Weymouth Football Club’s senior men’s squad travelled to Slough on Saturday for a National League South fixture and returned to Dorset with a solitary point in the bank following their goalless draw.

Our Man at the Match said, “We were second best throughout the game although we did pick it up a little after the break. Slough could have been 2 nil up by half time and they must be very disappointed not to have claimed all three points as were very lucky to gain one”.

“If the Terras are to survive in this division, then they must start beating the teams in the league around them”.

Dorchester travelled into Wales to lock horns with Merthyr Town for a FA Trophy third qualifying round tie under the guidance of new manager Tom Killick, however their journey was fruitless, and they returned to Dorset on the wrong end of a 3 goals to 1 score.

The Magpies only goal came from striker Leighton Thomas.

It wasn’t all bad news for our local clubs though, Portland United won on the road at Hythe & Dibden, beating their hosts by 4 goals to nil.

Goal machine that is Greg Borthwick netting a hat trick for the Blues with Ben Morris adding a fourth. The result sees United claim 11th place in the Wessex Premier League table.

Bridport travelled into Devon to play Oakhampton Argyle and extended their wining tally to 9 wins from 11 outings, however the Bees trail Southwest Peninsular League East league leaders Ivybridge Town who have played 2 games more by 9 points but are 5 points above 3rd placed Crediton.

Kieran Daniels and Kieran Coombs scored Bridport’s goals.

On Friday evening Weymouth & Portland rugby club’s second team entertained Lytchett Minster a xv at Monmouth Avenue in a friendly fixture and it was the Seahorses guests who emerged victors by 29 points to 0.

Two results from Sunday:

Weymouth Women 1 v Shaftsbury Women 2. Goal from Bianca Osborne.

Merley Cobham Sports Women 1 v Weymouth Women’s Development 2. Goals from Emily Screen & Laura Seymour.
