National League South: Weymouth 1 v Tonbridge Angels 1.
Weymouth entertained Tonbridge Angels at the Bob Lucas Stadium and manager Bobby Wilkinson gave under 23 squad goalkeeper Callum Smalley his senior debut.
Our Man at the Match said that they made a slow start to the first half and the second half wasn’t much better, lots of miss placed passes with Smalley keeping the Terras in the game with a string of saves, however they trailed by a goal to nil at the break.
After the turn around in the 65th minute Angles’ defender Ben Swift didn’t live up to his name and was dismissed following a late tackle that the referee deemed serious enough to flash the red car in his direction.
From the resulting free kick Dan Roberts glanced the ball off his forehead past the Angels’ keeper off of the post and into the goal to level the scores at 1 each.
The Terras were denied 2 good penalty appeals in the latter stages of the game, but on both occasions the referee waved play on.
Our Man at the Match chose debutant keeper Callum Smalley as his Man of the Match in particular for 1 save late in the second half that ensured the Terras retained the point that they held.
Wessex Premier League: Portland United 6 v Blackfield & Langley 1.
The Blues dominated the game from kick off until the final whistle with an impressive display, the result moving them into 9th place in the league table and with games in hand over the teams above them.
Their goals coming from Joe Wickham, Greg Borthwick, Ryan McKechnie Ben Morris all in the first half and Luke Sheehey and Archie Woolford adding 2 more after the break.
Rugby – Tribute Southern Counties League: Weymouth & Portland 0 v Swanage & Wareham 38.
Not a good day for the Seahorses, but very few of their supporters would have forecast this result at half time with neither side able to break the deadlock.
However, it was a different story in the second 40 minutes the Swans scored a breakaway try almost immediately following the re-start when the Seahorses were on the attack then the floodgates opened with the Swan’s crossing for 5 further tries, 4 of which were converted.
This was a rude awakening for Weymouth & Portland in their first season in this division after winning promotion against a team who have vast experience at this level of rugby and the Seahorses’ head coach Rich Bament has a big job to lift his players spirits following this defeat before they travel over the Ridgeway to play Dorchester next weekend.
Dorchester scored a 33 points to 0 away at Corsham.
