Weekend Sports Report

A 23rd minute goal from Terras’ striker Brandon Goodship ensured that Weymouth returned from Farnborough with at least a share of the National League South points.

The Terras led until the 67th minute when Borough equalised, but it was an extra time penalty save from Weymouth’s on loan Chelsea goalkeeper Jared Thompson that secured the one one result for the Terras.

In the Southern Premier League Dorchester entertained Basingstoke at the Avenue Stadium and sent their guests back to Hampshire on the wrong end of a 4 – 1 scoreline.

It was the best performance since the return of former player and now manager Tom Killick.

Shaq Gwengwe netted twice for the Magpies with Jack Dixon and Olli Haste both adding a goal each.

Portland United travelled to play Wells City for a FA Vase tie, the Blues striker Brin Doyle scored their only goal, but City also netted once so with the score 1 all at full time the tie was decided on penalties with Portland scoring 3 and City managing to convert 4 so the Blues go out of the competition and it’s Wells who go through into next weeks draw.

Bridport have been inactive for almost 6 weeks and it showed in their performance at Ivybridge where they went down by 2 goals to nil.

In the Tribute Southern Counties Rugby League Dorchester lost out at Comb Down by 27 points to 23, Weymouth & Portland went down at Frome by 39 points to 5, Ben Davis scoring the Seahorse’s only try, but Swanage & Wareham did manage to salvage a positive result beating visitors Avonvale by 27 points to 20 at Bestwall.

In the Tribute Dorset & Wilts leagues Blandford overcame the challenge of Wheatsheaf Cabin Crew at Larksmead by 31 points to 17, Bridport won at Brewery Field beating visitors East Dorset Dockers by 30 points to 17 and Puddletown won away against Salisbury 3rd team by 43 points to 10.

On Sunday Weymouth football club’s women’s team hosted Bath City at the Bob Lucas Stadium and failed to avenge their senior men’s 5 goals to 1 defeat at the hands of the Romans on Tuesday evening eventually going down by 2 goals to 1.

The Terras’ Emily Screen netted their only goal.

At the Osprey Leisure Centre the Annual Dorset Strongman took place and was well attended by both competitors and supporters.

Jai Kercher from Weymouth crosses the finishing line in 10.3 seconds carrying 262 Kilogrammes.
