Jim Davis’ ashes interned and life celebrated

On Wednesday 22nd November the ashes of Jim Davis, a leading member of the local scouting movement and local broadcaster, were interned at the Fordington Cemetery, Dorchester.

Following the internment a celebration of Jim’s life was held at the Scout HQ in Sawmills Lane, Dorchester, and amongst those attending and representing KeeP 106, of which Jim was a member since the station launched, were presenters Peter and Heather Foster, Mike Streeter and Rob Mott.

Jim was a local broadcaster originally with Ridgeway Radio, the hospital radio station for Dorset County Hospital, and latterly with KeeP 106 where he presented the popular Military Bandstand and Organ shows, amongst others. Jim had frequently attended organ concerts at Bournemouth Pavilion and became something of an expert on the organists and their instruments.

The picture below shows the KeeP 106 representatives behind a table full of scouting awards Jim had received over the years.

Peter Foster had some great stories to tell about Jim and his well travelled bear Oliver!

The team were pleased to meet Jim’s sister, Sue Cox and her husband Dave, and she too had some great stories to tell.

KeeP 106 presenter Rob Mott commented:

“I think the smiling picture of Jim pinned to the studio notice board sums Jim up nicely, always happy and smiling. We will miss his programmes especially Military Bandstand and the Organ Show.”
