A Tudor Christmas

Tudor House is celebrating the end of a successful season by holding a special Christmas event.

Step back in time to 1600, and see how the Tudors prepare for Christmas as part of this living history experience. Immerse yourself in the sights, sounds, and smells of the Tudor House in Weymouth at the turn of the Sixteenth Century.

Come and have a go at making a pomander, or a marchpane subtletie. Investigate the different layers of clothing worn, and maybe even try some on! The more musical amongst you might like to try joining in with a song, or elsewise listening to some period music played on period instruments. And through it all, discover how Christmas was celebrated under Elizabeth I, and how it differs from now.

Tudor House will be open from 11am to 3pm on Saturday 9 December. Free entry but donations welcome.  The house is in Trinity Street, Weymouth, DT4 8TW.

The house is owned and run by the local charity, Weymouth Civic Society. On behalf of WCS, Chris Wilson said “We’re delighted to have increased the visitor numbers to Tudor House this year, but we’ve only been able to open two days a week. We are looking for additional volunteers to help us welcome people to the house on extra days next year.”

Please contact tudorhouse@weymouthcivicsociety.org for more information about the event or becoming a volunteer.
