Weekend Sports Report

The weather decimated this weekend’s local sporting program with Weymouth football club’s game at Braintree, Bridport Football Club’s match at Bishop’s Lydeard and Weymouth & Portland rugby club’s game away at Combe Down all called off by Saturday morning and Dorchester Football Club’s game at the Avenue Stadium against visitors Beaconsfield was abandoned after 66 minutes when the score was 1 goal each, the Magpies strike coming from Polish striker Olaf Koszela.

Visibility was down to about 50 meters at Bestwall Park Wareham for the Swanage & Wareham v Corsham Tribute Southern Counties League rugby match. The Swans won by 50 points to 12.

Portland United did manage to get in 90 minutes of football away against AFC Stoneham, but went down by a goal to nil.

In the local rugby, Tribute Southern Counties League Dorchester travelled to Sherborne and lost out by 50 points to 22 while Swanage & Wareham hosted Corsham at Bestwall and beat them by 50 points to 12.

In the Dorset & Wilts leagues Blandford beat Ellingham & Ringwood away by 40 points to 7, Lytchett Minster overcame the challenge of Bridport winning that one by 43 points to 12 and Puddletown were awarded a home walk over Poole when the Dolphins called off on Saturday morning.

On Sunday Weymouth Football Club’s women’s team were beaten by 3 goals to nil away against Poole Town Women.
