Assault in Weymouth – witness appeal

Officers are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward as they investigate an assault in Weymouth.

It was reported that at around 10.10am on Friday 8 December 2023 a woman aged in her 20s was walking on The Esplanade, near to the Bluebird Coaches booking office, with a young child when they were approached by a man who was known to her.

She was reportedly assaulted and threatened by the man, but did not sustain serious injuries.

Police Constable Mark Eastgate, of Dorset Police, said: “We are investigating this matter and I am keen to speak to any witnesses to the incident.

“I am particularly keen to hear from a woman who was believed to be aged in her 50s who intervened during the assault.

“Finally, I would urge any motorists who were driving in the area around the relevant time to please check any dashcam footage to see if they have captured anything of relevance.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Dorset Police at www.dorset.police.uk or by calling 101, quoting occurrence number 55230192825. Alternatively, independent charity Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously online at Crimestoppers-uk.org or by calling Freephone 0800 555 111.
