Weekend Sports Report

Weymouth Football Club’s senior men’s team hosted Torquay United on Saturday for a National League South fixture.

A crowd of over 2000 turned out at the Bob Lucas Stadium and were entertained by both teams who according to our Man at the Match, “Were both willing to attack and go for all of the points. Both goal keepers were kept busy. There were near misses at both ends and a draw was a fair result for both teams and when you consider that the Gulls players are full time pros it was a creditable performance for the Terras”.

Weymouth forward Ezio Touray’s 44th minute header cancelled out Arkell Jude-Boyd’s 28th minute opener for the Gulls to make the final score Weymouth 1 Torquay United 1.

Both Dorchester and Bridport’s games were postponed due to waterlogged pitches and Portland United lost 2 goals to nil away at AFC Portchester in a Wessex League fixture.

On Sunday Weymouth Football Club’s Women’s development team travelled to play Poole Town Women’s reserves and lost out by 5 goals to 2 after leading the game 2 to 1 at one stage. The Terras’ ladies scorers were Ellie Porter and Laura Seymour.

In the local rugby Weymouth & Portland went down at home by 28 points to 5 against Frome at Monmouth Avenue in a match that the Seasider’s head coach Rich Bament said, “It was never a 23 point game, 10 maybe but never 23 points” and Dorchester beat Combe Down by 61 points to 3 at Coburg Road both in the Tribute Southern Counties League while in the Tribute Dorset & Wilts Leagues Blandford beat Ellingham & Ringwood by 76 points to 3, Bridport lost at home against Lytchett Minster by 13 points to 32 and Puddletown beat visitors Poole by 39 points to 5.

15 Reece Makin scores the Seahorses’ try.
