Weekend Sports Report

In the Dorset versus Hampshire trilogy of matches where 3 of our top non league teams ran out against Hampshire opposition it was the Hampshire clubs who took the honours winning all 3 games.

Mark Molesley has failed to tally up a victory since re-joining Weymouth for a second spell as manager last month.

In their final game of the 23/24 season the Terras went down at the Bob Lucas Stadium by 2 goals to 1 against visitors Farnborough despite playing for most of the second half against 10 men after a visiting player was dismissed for dangerous use of the elbow against Ezio Touray.

Dan Roberts opened the scoring for Weymouth, but Borough rallied and scored 2 unanswered goals to take all 3 National League South points back to Hampshire.

Our Man at the Match said: “It was a good game of end to end football, but a total mix up in our defence led to their first goal and we had a man advantage for almost the entire second half, but you wouldn’t have noticed. Weymouth’s keeper made some good saves, but theirs didn’t have to dirty his gloves. My Weymouth Man of the Match Tom Bearwish”.

“And it’s goodbye from me until next season”.

Dorchester football club’s dreams of reaching the Southern Premier League play offs were dashed at Basingstoke where the Magpies lost out by 3 goals to 1 despite taking the lead with a Ieuan Turner goal.

Portland United were in with a chance of the Wessex Premier League play offs, but were beaten two one at Grove Corner by visitors Brockenhurst.

The Blues conceded in the first half with a drive from the edge of the box, then again in the second period when they failed to clear from a corner and a Brockenhurst striker drove the ball to the right of the Blues keeper and into the back of the net from 12 yards out.

Portland struck back in the 92nd minute when the visitors failed to clear and Jacob Coombes managed to get his boot to the ball, but despite a brave effort from a visitor’s defender to clear he only succeeded in volleying the ball into the roof of his own net.

However, despite throwing caution to the wind in the final minutes Portland ran out of time and the referee blew to end the game and also the Blues dreams of promotion for this season.

Bridport travelled into Devon to play Newton Abbot Spurs and despite taking a 32nd minute lead through striker Solomon Ayunga the Bees defence succumbed twice after the break and went on to lose the game by 2 goals to 1.

Three results from Sunday, Weymouth Women 6, Wimborne Women 0 with a Emily Screen striking a hat trick for the Terras’ Ladies and a goal each from Charlie Wilson, Kaydee Thornicroft and Tegen Standen.

The Terras women’s development team lost by 4 goals to 2 against Merley Cobham Sports in the League Cup and Pen Mill Ladies beat Bridport Ladies by a goal to nil.

Portland score in the 92nd minute against Brockenhurst, but it’s too late to affect the final result.
